ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Gemma, a dog behaviourist working in the Waterside area dedicated to helping dogs and their carers with building skills and connection that will be the foundation of what an idyllic home set up looks like for each family.

I have been working within the canine industry for over 10 years primarily in rescue; that has meant I have had the opportunities to work closely with a large variety of breeds and help work through a number of different behavioural challenges. From my experience I have seen a lot of people having to make difficult decisions around rehoming their beloved pets where appropriate help and guidance has been difficult to find. My aim for this business venture is to offer personalised behaviour support for customers where my priority will be the wellbeing of their dog. I have learnt that every dog is a complete individual and that with the use of evidence-based training techniques selected for the dog in front of me, an improvement to not only that dog's wellbeing, but the relationship they have with their carers and the environment around them can be drastically improved. That’s not to say that it’s something that will happen in an hour and won’t take time, dedication and consistency, but the end result makes it the most rewarding job in the world (in my humble opinion)!

MY APPROACH

Industry experience working with reactive and aggresive dogs

My experience within the industry has been working with dogs that have shown reactive and or aggressive behaviours around people & other animals, destructivity, resource guarding, separation anxiety, formal restraint (grooming or veterinary handling), grabbing and mouthing, stereotypic behaviours and general lead pulling.

My approach is always to understand why a behaviour is happening - not just stopping it. My aim is to apply behavioural science with practical achievable training plans that can be tailored to everyday life of each individual. I have learnt to always be open minded and come with no judgement, if you are asking for help, you are putting your dog first. I will always be open and honest with communication and setting expectations as nothing is ever a quick fix, but i hope with a clear structured plan I can be the right person to guide you in the right direction to a home where everyone can enjoy the simple day to day.
